Lightning Ultra™ Gen. II SAS SSDs offer industry-leading predictable performance with high availability for the analysis of large data sets. Available in 19nm SLC, these SSDs are designed for write-intensive applications such as high performance computing (HPC), big data analytics, database logging, media editing, and indexing with a heavy workload comprised of a 50/50 read/write mix.

This next generation Lightning® SSD offers a feature-rich robust design combined with SanDisk’s innovative parallel processing architecture to deliver full data path protection (supports T10-DIF), temperature based power control, , an MTBF of 2.5 million hours and power fail protection.

Database Logging

Database logging is a write-intensive workload that allows customers to recover from failures by helping to connect primary and secondary databases. These database logs keep records of all database changes as transactions are updated and, in cases of downtime, they roll data forward through the point of failure. In cases of unplanned downtime, databases can be restored to a point beyond the last full, offline back-up, due to flash storage’s non-volatile memory, which preserves the last transactions prior to the downtime.

High-Performance Computing (HPC)

High-performance computing workloads consist of high-volume processing of large datasets, which greatly benefit by using flash technology. HPC includes engineering and data-intensive workloads like seismic analysis, oil and gas exploration, weather forecasting, and market simulations. Flash storage SSDs help each server’s application in an HPC cluster work more effectively and protect data as it is generated by scale-out applications across the cluster.

Media Editing

Lightning Ultra Gen. II SAS SSDs support creation of unending streams of video, images, and audio data for entertainment, and informational and recording purposes.
